UMB Parking and Commuter Services announced in an email on January 27, 2009 that the inter campus shuttle from UMBC to UMB will remain operational this spring from January 5, 2009 through May 20, 2009. However, they have decreased the frequency of buses by nearly half.

According to the announcement, the UMBC Shuttle will make nine round trips of one hour duration each, starting at 7:00AM; the last shuttle leaves from UMB at 6:48PM.

In addition to the alterations made to the shuttle schedule, several other changes have been implemented as well. Commuters using the shuttle are now required to have a boarding pass in order to get on to the bus. Students who are enrolled in intercampus programs or classes will be given priority on a first come first served basis. Faculty, staff and other students at UMB can obtain a red color boarding pass after registering with UMB Parking and Commuter Services.

This service will be unavailable for people who do not have a UMB One card or a boarding pass. As of now, no fees have been imposed for using this service; shuttle rides are free for students as well as staff and faculty.

These changes are the outcome of a series of emails and surveys that were issued from UMB Parking and Commuter Services to members of the UMB community over the last year. The research was conducted in order to assess the number of commuters on each schedule and their preferences for the proposed modifications. Charging each commuter a nominal fee and changes in shuttle frequency and route are some of the propositions that have been suggested.

It is unclear at present whether the recent modifications will be permanent or if they will be amended further in the months to come.
