On Saturday, October 4, the UMB Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), with co-sponsorship by USGA, celebrated its annual Moon Festival in the MSTF Atrium and Auditorium. The entire campus community was invited to enjoy the festivities and feast that the CSSA provided. Traditionally, the Moon Festival, or Mid-Autumn Festival, is a time to enjoy family togetherness and abundance. Although the festival is normally held in mid- to late September, the exact date varies each year based on the lunar calendar. The fall season is ideal because the moon is at its fullest and brightest. Mooncake, which is a staple in Chinese tradition, is enjoyed on the evening of the Moon Festival, when family members congregate.

Food flowed aplenty and anyone who was brave enough to risk possible embarrassment joined in to sing karaoke. CSSA raffled off several prizes during the first half of the evening. After dinner, a screening of the movie Chi bi, or Red Cliff, which is based on events that took place during the Three Kingdom period in ancient China and documents the Battle of Red Cliffs, wound up the celebration.
