Maggie Moore's is Renamed Lucy's Under New Management

The popular Irish pub Maggie Moore's has recently become Lucy's as a result of new ownership. Bill Karr, who was part of the original ownership team, purchased the interest owned by his partner, John Moore. Moore had named the pub after his wife, Maggie Moore. Karr has named the restaurant after his granddaughter Lucy. Karr purchased the website address www.lucysirishrestaurant.com before St. Patrick's Day of this year, probably in anticipation of the takeover.
Besides the name, the menu has also changed just a bit. More items have been added to the menu than just the standard American fare and entrees are served with a bit more jazz - trendy sauce zigzags on white plates and fancy garnish. Despite these changes, patrons can still enjoy the popular Old Bay rub buffalo wings and popcorn accompanied by several beer choices on tap.
The restaurant’s building, located at the intersection of Eutaw Street and Fayette Street one block from Lexington Market, was originally occupied by the Eutaw Savings Bank in 1847. A massive revolving safe at the entrance remains as a reminder of the building’s beginnings. The Bank moved across the street in 1888, and until 2003 the space was occupied by Baltimore Equitable Society. In 2005, the building was reopened as it is today, as an Irish pub and restaurant.
The restaurant spreads over two floors and has maintained most of the previous design features, like the original stamped tin ceilings twenty-two feet high, mahogany counter, and tall windows. In addition to menu selections from Ireland, the restaurant also features live music Wednesday through Saturday evenings.
