It's safe to say that by the time Avril Lavigne crooned over "sk8er bois" and Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong was shouting about American idiots, they and their ilk were just throwing flowers on punk rock's grave. But just because a genre-as-we-know-it is dead, it certainly doesn't mean its spirit is.

Even though we are in the twenty first century, compared to the majority of the fashion industry there is still an absence of representation of black models. In the mid 90's models like Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell, made history with their success in the fashion industry, but today that same depiction is not present.

Imagine a world that includes more frequent and deadly heat waves, droughts, wildfires, increased intensity of hurricanes, mass spread of diseases and disappearing ecosystems.
These are just some of the anticipated effects of global warming within the next 10 to 20 years, but many of those predictions are already occurring.

If you went to elementary school in the mid-1990s, "Pocahontas" probably recalls the melodious strains of the enduring song "Colors of the Wind," accompanied by her memorable animal pals Meeko the raccoon and Flit the hummingbird. For many people, Pocahontas is their go-to representation of an American Indian, one who is very beautiful, very free-spirited and very fabricated.

Last week was the celebration of the feast day of St. Therese, and campus ministry celebrated the day by sharing with the campus the meaning of Therese's "little way." Handing out roses in the cafeteria and spreading the love that Therese demonstrated to us was a gesture of compassion that resonated amongst the students.

A friend of mine was trying to advise me on all of those unwritten rules of dating - how people, even though they complain like hell about it, love the chase. Or even how a small thing like a text message at the wrong time could be a disaster. I was thinking about this and wondered, what fostered these ludicrous rules?
Is it the media, with shows and movies portraying over-analytical characters plotting and scheming their next moves? Or is it some natural instinct of ours to be so curious to stalk our prospective mate for hours on Facebook?
Listen, all I'm saying is I know there are a ton of different ways to handle a situation, and a lot of different personalities out there.

Ryan Breslin's Oct. 1 article, 'Palin Comparison,' poses the question "What scares you?" The writer may have been asking this question as a simple rhetorical device, but I thought I would take that opportunity to answer his question.
I am actually terrified of people writing articles blasting a political figure with no substantial evidentiary support other than Hollywood actors, Disney movies, and perhaps the ever-so-balanced OP/ED page of the New York Times.

Troy Anthony Davis, a black man, was arrested for killing a white police officer, Mark Allen MacPhail, in 1989. He was convicted and sentenced to death in 1991. The case was built primarily on witness testimonies, as there was no physical evidence linking Davis to the killing.
